2016 The Eyrie Vineyards Chardonnay

80.00

(ALMOST) THE ORIGINAL CHARDONNAY VINES OF THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY

Redolent and regal aromatics of ginger musk, warm minerals, mixed mint and lavender, orchard stonefruit and bright orange citrus with spiced wood from once-filled French oak. The palate is texturally silken with gentle acidity woven into dense, autumnal flavors. The finish is enveloping.

Vintage: 2016 was phenomenal. A warm spring was followed by a mild summer with just enough rain. Weather in September was optimal, allowing physiological and sugar ripeness with high but balanced acidity on an average sized crop.

Place: The Eyrie Vineyards, Dundee Hills. With some of the oldest vines in the Willamette Valley, the Draper selection Chardonnay was planted own their own roots in the late 1960’s by David Lett in the volcanic basalt and clay Jory soils. The site is certified organic, non-irrigated and is thoughtfully farmed by Jason Lett.

Winemaking: Hand harvested 9/20/16. Pressed and briefly settled, the juice was transferred to 1 once used 228L Gauthier barrel for fermentation with native yeasts and zero additions/adjustments except SO2. Aging took place in a cool cellar in the Eola-Amity Hills with minimal lees stirring. The wine went through full malolactic and was gently racked from barrel to stainless steel after one year for a second winter on lees. Bottled 2/7/2018 unfined and unfiltered.

Chemistry: TA: 5.9 g/l | pH: 3.39 | VA: 0.45g/l | Ethanol: 13.04% | SO2: ~56ppm
